The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided a credit line of up to 100 million euros to project companies that will develop, own, and manage affordable housing projects in Ukraine, reports EBRD press service.

The funds will be used to implement the "Stairs to Prosperity" program – an affordable housing platform for internally displaced persons, the elderly, and war veterans.

The program is led by American developer and philanthropist Dell Loy Hansen. The non-profit Hansen Mission in Ukraine, which he founded, is dedicated to solving housing issues for displaced families.

The borrowers who will receive the financing are or will be 100% owned by Dell Loy Hansen and receive operational support from the Hansen Ukrainian Mission.

The initial tranche of €7.1 million will finance the development of the first phase of the project. It includes two EDGE-certified affordable rental housing projects in the Kyiv region, where 182 housing units will be built. Subsequent phases envision scaling up to approximately 1,800 energy-efficient affordable housing units in several locations by 2029.

"This project marks an important milestone in the implementation of our Real Estate Strategy in Ukraine. By supporting scalable, private sector-led affordable housing, we are demonstrating how this sector can make a significant contribution to Ukraine's reconstruction and long-term sustainability," said Vlaho Kojakovic, EBRD Director for Real Estate.
