At the end of May, DTEK signed a record-breaking loan agreement with a consortium of Ukrainian banks — Oschadbank, FUIB, and Ukrgasbank — worth approximately UAH 3 billion (around EUR 67 million) to finance the construction of energy storage systems. This was reported on the official websites of DTEK Renewables and Oschadbank.

"This is the first loan of such scale in Ukraine for the development of energy storage technologies," said DTEK.

The loan will fund the construction of five energy storage facilities with a combined capacity of 180 MW. In total, six facilities with a total capacity of 200 MW are planned.

This will become one of the largest energy storage complexes in Eastern Europe, capable of supplying electricity to approximately 600,000 households — roughly half the population of Kyiv.

The banks will finance part of the project cost through the loan, while the remainder will be covered by DTEK’s own funds.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2025. The agreement remains valid until September 25, 2030.

  • In January 2025, DTEK signed a contract to deploy 200 MW of energy storage systems by the end of the year. In April, the company announced plans to increase its energy storage capacity target to 500 MW.
