Emergency power outages in Ukraine and Moldova, subway stops in Kyiv – video

After 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, emergency power outages began across Ukraine. Due to a voltage drop in the Ukrainian power grid, Chisinau and parts of Moldova lost power.

The subway in Kyiv and Kharkiv was shut down due to the power outage.

"Due to the loss of power from external power centers, the subway has temporarily suspended train traffic and escalators." reported in the KCSA.

In Ukraine, electricity supply schedules are not in effect at least in the Sumy, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, and Mykolaiv regions.

According to DTEK, emergency blackouts have been introduced in Kyiv and the region, as well as in Odesa and Dnipro oblasts.

Due to the complete lack of electricity stopped: Vinnytsia's main water supply station: the entire city is currently without water.

There is no water supply in all districts of the Ukrainian capital, reported Kyivvodokanal.

Moldova's Energy Minister Dorin Iungetu said that the reason for the large-scale blackout in the country was serious problems in the Ukrainian power grid.

"Due to serious problems in Ukraine's power grid, on the morning of January 31, the voltage on the 400 kV Isaccea-Vulcanesti MDRES high-voltage line dropped, which led to an emergency shutdown of the power system," wrote he's on Facebook.

Ukrenergo reported that emergency power outages have been introduced almost throughout Ukraine.

Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko clarified that underground subway stations can currently operate as shelters (on the stations' backup power supply).

There are problems with cellular communication in Moldova, reports NewsMaker.

The Moldovan Customs Service has reported temporary power outages at several checkpoints. Customs procedures are currently being carried out manually. The central office of the Moldovan Customs Service also reported technical problems.

At 12:10 Ministry of Energy of Ukraine confirmed emergency blackouts in Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions.

"According to experts, the power supply will be restored within the next 2-3 hours," the ministry said in an official statement.
