The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia, which is likely to include restrictions on banks, energy companies, payment systems and crypto exchanges. About writes Bloomberg, citing informed sources.

The new package of EU sanctions will be the 19th since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

According to the agency's sources, it may include new measures against the trade in Russian oil and the Russian shadow fleet, as well as a ban on reinsurance of tankers carrying Russian oil.

Separately, they discuss toughening restrictions on Russia's largest oil companies, including Rosneft, as well as export bans on goods and chemicals used by the Russian military industry.

Brussels is also studying the possibility of using the "anti-circumvention tool" mechanism against Kazakhstan for the first time. It is a ban on the import of certain machines, which, according to the EU, are transported in large volumes from Kazakhstan to Russia for the production of weapons.

The EU is also hoping to coordinate some sanctions with the US. To this end, a delegation of EU officials will visit Washington this week to discuss the possibility of joint action.

The U.S. side is considering imposing additional tariffs on buyers of Russian oil, as well as restrictions on the shadow fleet of Russian tankers.

Russia is already under severe sanctions, but continues to circumvent some of them thanks to China, Kazakhstan, and other countries that supply it with the goods it needs, including drones.

It is expected that the proposal for a new EU sanctions package will be officially presented in the coming days.
