The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has detained former Ukrenergo CEO Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.A law enforcement source confirmed the information to LIGA.net.

The circumstances of the case involving Kudrytskyi have not yet been officially disclosed.

According to Ukrayinska Pravda, the first to report the detention, Kudrytskyi faces charges of large-scale fraud and money laundering.

Investigators believe that Kudrytskyi and Lviv businessman Ihor Hrynkevych allegedly embezzled funds from the state-owned company during tenders for the reconstruction of power system facilities in 2018.

Last week, law enforcement officers searched Kudrytskyi’s home. He described the case as "fabricated and absurd," saying it "has political overtones."

The decision to terminate Kudrytskyi’s powers early as Ukrenergo CEO was made by the company’s supervisory board in early September 2024.The stated reason for his dismissal was the unfinished protective structures around the system operator’s substations.Independent board members, however, called the move politically motivated.

Kudrytskyi himself linked his dismissal to what he described as the authorities’ desire to tighten control over everything happening within the company.
