Google becomes early-stage investor in three US nuclear power plants

Google has signed an agreement with the American company Elementl Power Inc. to prepare three sites for advanced nuclear energy projects.
According to an official press release , Google has committed to providing early-stage development capital for three advanced nuclear power projects being developed by Elementl Power.
Each of these projects is planned to have a capacity of at least 600 megawatts, and the agreement also includes the possibility for Google to purchase electricity from these plants after they are completed.
This is part of Google's strategy to secure reliable, carbon-free energy for its needs, especially for data centers that support the development of artificial intelligence and other innovations.
Elementl Power was founded in 2022 as an independent developer of advanced nuclear power projects and an independent power producer. The company aims to commission more than 10 gigawatts of nuclear power in the United States by 2035.
- In October 2024, Google signed an agreement with the startup Kairos Power, which involves the production of several small modular nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 500 MW by 2035. The first of them is expected to start operating in 2030.
