Trump Media unexpectedly gets into fusion energy by teaming up with TAE Technologies

Media company Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) announced on Thursday about its merger with the US-based TAE Technologies, one of the leaders in fusion energy, and its intention to build the world's first industrial-scale 50 MW fusion power plant.
"Fusion power will provide cost-effective, affordable, and reliable electricity that will help the United States win the artificial intelligence race and maintain global economic leadership," the companies said in a joint press release.
Trump Media plans to invest up to $300 million in the implementation of TAE technologies.
TAE has developed five fusion reactor prototypes and raised more than $1.3 billion in private capital from Google, Chevron Technology Ventures, Goldman Sachs, Sumitomo Corporation of Americas, and other investors.
After the merger, Trump Media will remain the holding company for Truth Social, Truth+, Truth.Fi, and will also gain control of TAE Technologies, TAE Power Solutions, and TAE Life Sciences.
The combined company will be led by co-CEOs, the current CEOs of TMTG Devin Nunez and TAE Michl Binderbauer. The deal is expected to close in mid-2026, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval.
The construction of the first power plant is scheduled to begin in the same year.
- In 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy announced that American scientists had breakthrough in fusion energy.
