Trump: Putin will stop killing people if oil falls another $10
US President believes that falling energy prices can force Russia to peace
U.S. President Donald Trump believes that lower oil prices will force Russia to stop hostilities against Ukraine. He said this on Tuesday in an interview with CNBC.
"If you notice, OPEC and OPEC+, they're drilling more. They want to drill more because I think they want me happy because if energy goes down low enough, Putin's going to stop killing people. That'll be nice. Even though his own people that are dying, him and Ukraine. But Putin will stop killing people if you get energy down another $10 a barrel. He's going to have no choice because his economy stinks," Trump said.
As of August 5, 2025, Brent crude is trading below $68 per barrel.
