Ukraine forced to rely on record electricity imports after Russia struck critical infrastructure

Today, Ukraine will import more than 18,600 MWh of electricity, the Ministry of Energy said in its morning report. This is the highest indicator since the beginning of the year.

The grid continues to be restored after the biggest blow during the entire war, which occurred on March 22.

Yesterday, according to the instructions of dispatchers of NPC Ukrenergo, hourly and emergency power outages were applied in Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, and during peak hours – in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.

In Kherson, due to the warming, it was decided to end the heating season early.

Kharkiv also announced a shutdown of heat supply yesterday, but the situation there is much more complicated after the local CHP-5 was completely destroyed.

On the night of March 22, Russia used 63 kamikaze drones and 88 missiles of various types to attack Ukraine. Anti-aircraft defense managed to shoot down 55 Shaheds and 37 missiles.

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the chairman of the board of NPC Ukrenergo, called the night attack on March 22, 2024 the biggest attack on the energy system of Ukraine during the war.
