Ukraine has accumulated 11 billion cubic meters of gas in its underground storage facilities, Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba said on Friday.

"The volume of gas currently stored is about 11 billion cubic meters," he said at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.

This amount represents more than 80% of the government’s target.

Earlier this week, Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said that the goal is to inject at least 13.2 billion cubic meters before the start of the heating season. She added that gas injection is proceeding according to plan, and in some cases even ahead of schedule.

Kuleba also reported that 2.4 million tons of coal have been accumulated at power plant warehouses.

Fuel reserves for boiler houses have also been prepared: 90,000 tons of coal, 85,000 tons of liquid fuel, 585,000 cubic meters of firewood, and 32,000 tons of pellets.

  • Ukraine emerged from last winter with record-low gas reserves. As of mid-May, only 6.14 billion cubic meters of natural gas were stored in underground facilities, according to the DiXi Group analytical center. The occupancy rate in May was the lowest in the past 11 years.
  • The target level of gas reserves for 2025 has not been publicly announced. In 2024, Ukraine entered the heating season with about 13 billion cubic meters of gas in storage.
