President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the National Security and Defense Council will impose sanctions on the Mindich tapes.

"There will be a decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions based on the proposal of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. It is extremely difficult for everyone in Ukraine right now. We are going through power outages, Russian attacks, and losses. It is absolutely abnormal that there are still some schemes in the energy sector. I will sign a decree to impose sanctions against two people involved in the NABU case against Energoatom. Now we all need to protect Ukraine. Framing the state means taking responsibility for it. To break the law means to be responsible for it," he said in an address on Wednesday .

on November 11, seven people involved in the Energoatom corruption case were served with suspicion notices as part of Operation Midas, including Timur Mindich , a businessman close to Zelenskyy. Five of them were detained.

Mindic was not detained because he managed to travel abroad before being served with a notice of suspicion.

Mindich was previously best known as a co-owner of the Kvartal 95 production studio and a close friend of President Zelenskyy. Businessman Ihor Kolomoisky in 2019 told that Mindich was his business partner "in some projects, not particularly important", that Mindich had been dating his daughter for some time, and that it was Mindich who introduced him to Zelensky.

Mindich supported Zelensky during the 2019 election campaign, and during the 2020 pandemic, journalists recorded that the businessman unofficially visited the Presidential Office, explaining it as "charity".

Also, Oleksandr Tsukerman, who, together with Mindich, is considered by the investigation to be the key leader of potentially criminal activities at Energoatom (other members of the organization called him "Shef"), was not detained .

According to the investigation, it was Zuckerman who assigned pseudonyms to other members of the organization and to people who used its services.

  • Zelenskiy also said that the Ministers of Energy (Svitlana Hrynchuk) and Justice (Herman Halushchenko), whose names are mentioned on the tapes recorded by NABU during the investigation of the case, should resign from the government .
