European Union extends TEN-T transport corridors to Ukraine: final decision

The Council of the European Union on Thursday adopted the final decision regarding the revision of plans for the development of the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T. They provide for the extension of four transport corridors to Ukraine and Moldova and a reduction in the level of cross-border connections with Russia and Belarus, the press service of the Council of the EU reported.

Joining new Ukrainian routes will allow to attract EU funding, in particular,  grants from the European Commission within the framework of the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) instrument. It finances infrastructure projects aimed at the development of the Trans-European transport network.

Ukraine plans to develop the TEN-T railway corridors with 1435 mm Eurogauge to improve freight and passenger connections with the European Union.

Earlier, the European Commission excluded Russian and Belarusian routes from the TEN-T network, and also lowered the status of routes on the territory of the EU at the junctions with aggressor states.

The decision will be published in the Official Journal of the EU in the coming weeks and will enter into force 20 days after publication.

On June 6, 2023, Ukraine and the European Union signed an agreement on the participation of Ukrainian projects in the European Connecting Europe Facility program.
