German road repair technology NovoCrete will be tested in Lviv

For the first time in Ukraine, one of the streets in the Lviv community will be repaired using German NovoCrete technology. About said press service of the Lviv City Council.
A cooperation agreement on the implementation of this method was signed with the German government and Lviv Polytechnic National University. The work is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2025.
According to Andriy Moskalenko, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, the road base will be recycled using NovoCrete additive.
That is, the old road surface is cut off, the road base is made of crushed stone and sand, then the old pavement is ground, NovoCrete hydraulic binder is added to it, and then the asphalt is laid.
"As a result, the road surface will be strong and frost-resistant. In addition, this technology will significantly reduce the cost and speed up road repairs. On top of that, the warranty for this coating is 10 years. Our German partners are also financing the use of this method of road renovation," Moskalenko said.
NovoCrete is a development of the German company IBS GmbH, based on the recycling of waste in road construction. It is a mineral additive that is mixed with soil and cement directly on site using special machines.
The crystalline structure of the soil changes, turning it into a stable, frost-resistant base. This creates a solid foundation for the subsequent road surface.

Thanks to the short reaction time of NovoCrete, the repair time is reduced by about 50% and the roads can usually be used within two days.
Repair teams can reuse almost all of the available material. New materials are no longer needed. Thus, for in words managing director of IBS GmbH Julian Biehl, to reduce CO2 can be about 60-70%.
- In May 2025, the State Recovery Agency signed a memorandum of cooperation with the South Korean company SG. It is about the application in Ukraine ecoSteel Ascon ecological asphalt pavement technology.
