On the afternoon of October 18, Russians targeted civilian infrastructure in Sumy. In particular, enemy drones hit a gas station and a railroad, reported oleh Hryhorov, head of the regional military administration.
For example, a Russian attack UAV hit a gas station in the Zarichny district of Sumy.
Preliminary, there were no fatalities. Two women are known to have been injured.

Photos of the aftermath of the Russian attack on the gas station were also published by the State Emergency Service.

Later, Grigorov reported that a Russian drone had hit educational institutions and railway infrastructure.
"The blast wave damaged windows in passenger cars and the station building, but there were no casualties," said the head of the JMA.

Since the summer of 2025, Russia has begun to apply new tactics of attacks on key junctions of the Ukrainian railroad with long-range drones. According to the head of UZ Alexander Pertsovskythe attacks do not have a specific focus on military cargo. These are essentially attacks on civilian infrastructure.
"Now they can afford to use 'chess' to strike on individual locomotives, not for strategic purposes," Pertsovsky said in an interview with Reuters.
- According to the World Bank, approximately 30% of Ukraine's railroad network is in the "damage-repair" cycle.
- In mid-October, the Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba, said that since the beginning of August, the Russians have inflicted almost 300 strokes by object Ukrzaliznytsia. On average, the infrastructure can be restored within four hours.
