The head of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, confirmed the attack.

"A control post at one of the stations was destroyed, and one of our railway signal operators was injured by shrapnel. Despite the damage, train traffic in the Odesa hub continues," he wrote on Facebook.

  • In recent days, Russia has intensified efforts to disrupt transport links to the southern part of Odesa region.
  • On December 18, drones struck a bridge near the village of Maiaky. During the attack, a woman who was travelling in a car with her children was killed.
  • Previously, in 2018, then–Security Service of Ukraine head Vasyl Hrytsak said that Russia had plans to create a so-called "people’s republic" in southern Odesa region. According to him, the scenario involved cutting off southern Bessarabia from the rest of Ukraine by destroying bridges, followed by the infiltration of armed groups from Transnistria.
