Ukraine resumes navigation on the Bystre Canal after the explosion of a dredger

Starting August 6, 2025, Ukraine will resume traffic through the maritime approach channel of the Bystre mouth on the Danube River, which connects the shipping lane to the Black Sea. About said Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.
The canal will be used for vessels to enter and exit Ukrainian seaports.
Shipping is allowed for vessels with a draft of up to 4.5 meters, only during daylight hours and with a pilot.
Before resuming work, specialists, including Ukrainian Armed Forces sailors, conducted depth measurements and a mine survey in the area of the Ingulsky emergency dredger.
The inspections resulted in a positive conclusion and a safe alternative route was identified.
Work was also carried out to check the technical condition of the canal and organize safe ship traffic in cooperation with the relevant services.
on July 24, in the Danube Delta in the Odesa region an explosion occurred on a dredging vessel. The vessel was at the mouth of the Bystre for scheduled maintenance with 11 crew members. The explosion killed three USPA employees.
Due to this incident, the maritime access channel to the Bystre estuary was temporarily closed to shipping.
