Ukrzaliznytsia has allowed the return of foreign freight cars to the Ukrainian railway infrastructure, the press service of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development reported.

This became possible after the approval of a new procedure for determining the technical compatibility of such wagons with the tracks and operating conditions in Ukraine.

The decision of Ukrzaliznytsia streamlines the issue of the operation of wagons owned by foreign companies and paves the way for their official use on the territory of our country.

To do this, wagon owners must conclude an appropriate agreement with Ukrzaliznytsia and provide technical information for verification of compliance.

Ukrzaliznytsia specialists agreed on technical requirements with the railway administrations of neighboring countries and approved a standard form of the contract.

Owners of foreign wagons will have 30 days from the date of publication to conclude agreements with Ukrzaliznytsia. After that, wagons that meet the technical requirements will again be able to participate in domestic transportation within the territory of Ukraine.

The previous restrictions, effective from March 1, 2025, were introduced due to the termination of the Agreement on the Shared Use of Freight Wagons in the former CIS.

This made it impossible to use wagons registered in other countries without a new legal mechanism, which has now been created.
