Ukrzaliznytsia received Bulgarian battery-powered shunting tractors: photos

Ukrzaliznytsia has received the first two battery-powered shunting tractors from the Bulgarian company Express Service OOD. About said uZ press service.
Tractors purchased as part of the "Emergency Support to Ukrainian Railways" project, a joint venture with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The contract is worth EUR 6.017 million.
The new equipment is equipped with lithium-ion batteries with fast recharge and up to 24 hours of autonomous operation. The tractors can reach speeds of up to 10 km/h and move freight cars with a total weight of up to 3,000 tons.

"In the near future, the first machines will be deployed in key production units, which will increase the efficiency of shunting operations due to high energy efficiency and ease of maintenance," UZ said.
The company emphasized that battery tractors operate without CO₂ emissions and harmful substances. In addition, their operation is cheaper compared to diesel counterparts.
The entire batch is expected to arrive in Ukraine by the end of 2026.
