Bloomberg: shelling on October 3 knocks out 60% of Ukraine's gas production
A massive Russian strike on Oct. 3 on Kharkiv and Poltava regions knocked out about 60% of gas production, according to Bloomberg, citing its own sources.
As a result, Ukraine will have to significantly increase gas imports. The need, according to Bloomberg, is estimated at 4.4 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of March, worth almost 2 billion euros – the equivalent of almost 20% of the country's annual consumption.
The key risk is that Russia may continue to damage Ukraine's gas industry, as its attacks on energy infrastructure continue unabated .
Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said that the volume of gas imports will depend on the intensity of Russian shelling, the level of damage to the gas transportation system and oil and gas sector, and the speed of recovery.
- In August, Hrynchuk announced a goal of accumulating 13.2 billion cubic meters of gas in storage by the start of the heating season, of which 4.6 billion cubic meters were to be imported. on October 1, Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Koretsky said that the company had fulfilled this plan by 95-97%.
- Ukraine plans to increase imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG). As reported earlier, Naftogaz has imported almost all of the US LNG previously contracted for the heating season.
