Ukrenergo top manager killed by electric shock at substation
A member of the management board of NPC Ukrenergo, Alexei Brecht, died while performing his professional duties, DTEK Company reported.
"Oleksiy Oleksandrovych was an experienced power engineer who did a lot for the Ukrainian energy system and its stability during the war. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and fellow energy workers… May he rest in peace," – the official DTEK Telegram channel said.
According to information, People's Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko, Brecht's death was caused by an electric shock at a Ukrenergo substation.
"Death overtook him where he considered it necessary to be in order to return light to people as soon as possible. For the second day in a row, Oleksiy Aleksandrovich personally supervised the restoration work at one of the energy facilities recently attacked by the enemy," Ukrenergo specified.
Oleksiy Brecht was 47 years old. He spent more than 24 of them working for the company.
The Ministry of Energy expressed condolences on the tragic death of Brecht.
"In the most difficult times for our country, when the enemy tried to plunge us into darkness, Oleksii Brekht took on a huge responsibility. Leading NPC Ukrenergo as acting Chairman of the Board during the difficult period of 2024-2025, and subsequently being responsible for the operation and restoration of the grid, he did everything possible to keep the system running. His contribution to the stability of the integrated power system of Ukraine is difficult to overestimate," the Ministry of Energy noted.
Oleksiy Brekht was born on March 30, 1978. He received an engineering degree in Power Plants from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Since 1999, he worked at Kyivska PSP, and since 2001 – at Ukrenergo. He headed a separate division of Ukrenergo – the Research and Project Center for the Development of the Integrated Power System of Ukraine, was responsible for long-term development, European integration, and technical policy; he also headed the service for long-term development of the Central Power System of Ukrenergo.
He also had experience as a dispatcher and head of the dispatch service.
- On the evening of January 14, in Kyiv, while unloading a generator, an employee of Kyivteploenergo was killed.
- According to information from MP Oleksiy Kucherenko, two emergency crews’ mechanics died in Kyiv in two days due to excessive overwork.
