Naftogaz sued Gazprom for almost $7 billion. Steps are being prepared for collection
Ukraine is preparing to recover $6.9 billion from the Russian Gazprom on the won arbitration cases. This was stated by the head of the Naftogaz Sergiy Koretsky during the report, writes president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Koretsky, the Ukrainian side already has several positive decisions of international arbitrations that "demonstrate the responsibility of Russia and Gazprom and affirm the power of international law."
Zelensky emphasized that these are "absolutely fair decisions."
"We are preparing concrete steps to recover this money, and tomorrow Ukrainian ambassadors will receive the relevant instructions."the President noted.
They also discussed preparations for the new heating season.
In particular, they discussed agreements with European partners and international financial organizations to help ensure the country's energy sustainability in times of war.
- On April 12, 2023, the arbitral tribunal in The Hague ordered Russia to pay $5 billion to Naftogaz for illegally seized assets in Crimea. Russia has not recognized this decision and is not complying with it.
- On June 23, 2025, it was reported that Naftogaz sued Gazprom for $1.37 billion for failure to fulfill the contract.
