Almost 3,000 multi-storey buildings in Kyiv remain without heating as of Thursday morning, January 21, the mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported.

"Last night we connected heat to 227 houses. We did it for the second time after the infrastructure was damaged by enemy attacks on January 9 and 20," he wrote on Telegram.

According to the mayor, emergency power outages continue in Kyiv.

Utilities and power engineers continue to work to restore heat and electricity supply to the city.

The night before, the mayor of the capital said that at night, heating began to be supplied to homes that had been left without it twice due to shelling and infrastructure damage. There are 3,260 such buildings in Kyiv.

It takes about two days for the heat to reach the homes of Kyiv residents, Klitschko explained.

Water supply has been restored to all consumers in Kyiv.

  • On the afternoon of January 21, President Zelensky reported that about 4,000 homes in the capital (roughly a third of the total) remained without heating and in sub-zero temperatures, and almost 60% of consumers were without electricity.
  • In the evening, the energy sector restored electricity supply to all critical infrastructure facilities in Kyiv after the combined Russian attack on January 20.
