The Cabinet of Ministers has announced another unpopular reform: mandatory technical inspections for all cars
Ukraine plans to introduce mandatory technical inspection for all vehicles, including passenger cars. This was announced by Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development, in a statement interview CTS.
Currently, in Ukraine, technical inspections are only mandatory for commercial trucks and buses. However, in the European Union, this is a mandatory fundamental regulation for all vehicles.
"This will be a politically difficult document, but we are working to make it happen," Derkach said.
In addition to mandatory technical inspections, roadside technical inspections should be implemented in Ukraine. Inspection services should be able to stop a vehicle on the road and fully check its technical condition, as is the case in EU countries.
The Ministry is also working on a draft law that will change the approach to the certification of used cars imported into Ukraine. The current certification is an inefficient and often corrupt tool that has no analogues in the EU.
"We will change it to mandatory technical inspection. That is, a used car, when imported into Ukraine, will not undergo certification, but the first mandatory technical inspection," the deputy minister explained.
Derkach emphasized that this is a step-by-step approach that will gradually lead Ukraine to mandatory technical control for all vehicles in accordance with European standards.
- On November 27, it became known that Ukraine has made commitments to the IMF implement unpopular reforms, including the abolition of certain tax benefits.
