Ukrzaliznytsia finalizes order for 100 new passenger railcars
Ukrzaliznytsia completed the contracting procedures for 100 new passenger railcars, said its press service.
On Tuesday, July 21, the company signed a contract with Kryukiv Carriage Works for the purchase of new models of passenger cars with innovative technical and planning solutions in the T-size.
As part of the total order of 100 cars, a signal batch of five new generation railcars will have modern control systems, an 80% longer service life, and will accommodate more passengers – up to 44 in one compartment car (+10% over the maximum in standard cars).
"This is the third major purchase of railcars by Ukrzaliznytsia since 2021 at the expense of the state budget. In total, along with this contract, the railroad will receive 266 new passenger cars – a significant upgrade of its rolling stock," the Prime Minister commented Yulia Sviridenko.
According to her, in the process of building Ukrainian railcars, the Kryukiv plant engages 166 manufacturing companies from all regions, including companies that have moved from the occupied territories and those that continue to operate near the front.
"This is to support our economy, preserve and create jobs, and develop industry," Svyrydenko emphasized.
The cost of purchasing one passenger car was about UAH 95 million, and a compartment car for the transportation of passengers with disabilities – UAH 98.3 million.
Delivery of the cars will take 2.5 years from the date of prepayment, subject to mandatory certification of the new model.
- In 2021, Kryukiv Carriage Works won a tender from UZ for 88 compartment cars and 12 SV cars for a total of UAH 3 billion. The company received the latest of them in March 2023.
- In October 2023 Ukrzaliznytsia and Kryukiv Plant sign a contract for 44 passenger railcars, and in December by another 22 cars.
- In early June, Ukrzaliznytsia ordered 95 compartment cars uAH 5.37 billion at Kryukiv Plant.
