Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has faced an acute shortage of passenger cars. Priority is given to the transportation of military personnel, organized groups of children, and medical passengers. Therefore, the need to update the fleet is critically important.

The new wagons will replace the outdated rolling stock, created using technologies from the 1970s, and will reduce maintenance costs and improve the quality of transportation.

"In 2025, a total of 100 new wagons will be contracted, including five units of the new generation – a pilot batch for future scaling," the statement said.

The expected price of one wagon is 95.6 million UAH. The delivery time is 2.5 years from the date of prepayment.

These are compartment cars with the possibility of transformation into sleeping cars (SV). One carriage will be inclusive. and will have an electric lift, a ramp for the high platform, and an enlarged compartment for traveling passengers with disabilities in wheelchairs.

Main characteristics of the new wagons:

service life – 50 years (20 years longer than standard wagons);
wider body;
passenger capacity – up to 44 people in one compartment car;
air conditioning – works even when stopped and at low speeds;
Heating – fully electric with individual temperature control;
sleeping area length – up to 2.2 meters.
