From today, Resolution No. 454 of the Cabinet of Ministers entered into force, according to which, during the sale of a car, the license plate affixed to it can be left at the buyer's request, reported the press service of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"Now, during the conclusion of the sales contract and when re-registering the vehicle at the service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is possible to transfer license plates from the previous owner to the new owner free of charge," the MSC explains.

The exception is individual license plates and plates with a certain combination of numbers, which can be officially purchased at service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. You can transfer such plates to a new owner only if you pay the service center their cost.

At the same time, if such a license plate is transferred to a close relative — spouse, parents, children — there is no need to pay for it again.

These changes are being made so that in the future, when it will be possible to buy a car independently through the Diia application or through the Driver's Electronic Cabinet, there will already be an option to buy a car together with a state registration license plate, the agency adds.

As Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko stated at the beginning of May, the possibility to sell cars through Diia and the Driver's Electronic Cabinet will appear in September 2023.
