Howard Buffett-backed dry port opens on Ukraine-Hungary border boosting vital trade routes
The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, together with its partners, completed the construction of a dry port on the border of Ukraine and Hungary, Latifundist writes with reference to Howard Buffett's speech at the Victory Harvest conference today in Kyiv.
"You need to diversify your export routes. We have already built a transshipment complex on the border with Hungary with a 30,000-ton elevator," the publication quoted Buffett.
The Foundation will continue to finance the construction of such hubs.
"Ukraine is a somewhat atypical country for us. Before the war, it was not a country where we were needed. But when the full-scale invasion began, it affected the food situation around the world, and we realized that we had to help," said the businessman.
The completion of the construction of the grain port, located next to Hungary and Romania, was announced by the general designer company AktivProekt at the beginning of October.
The terminal was designed using modern 3D tools, which significantly accelerated the construction of the facility.
The hub provides storage and transshipment of grain cargoes, oil and containers from the broad Ukrainian (1520 mm) to the narrow European (1435 mm) gauge.
The productivity of the complex is 5,000 tons of transit capacity per day, 27,000 tons of simultaneous grain storage, 4,000 tons of oil storage, 500 TEU for placing containers.
On June 26, 2023, Ukraine received modular bridges from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
