Bangladesh offers to buy 25 planes from Boeing to persuade Trump to reduce tariffs

Bangladesh has offered the United States a deal to buy 25 Boeing aircraft, hoping it will help convince Donald Trump reduce the recently introduced duties on goods from the country. About said bangladeshi Trade Minister Mahbubur Rahman in an interview with Bloomberg.
According to him, Bangladesh is focusing on the recent US trade deal with Indonesia, which has pledged to buy 50 Boeing aircraft.
Rahman emphasized that their proposal is a "serious package," and if the United States compares it with others, Bangladesh should get better terms.
The aircraft deal is part of the Bangladeshi government's broader strategy to reduce its trade surplus with the United States, which is about $6 billion.
In addition, last week Dhaka signed a preliminary agreement with American farmers to import 700,000 tons of wheat annually for five years. Bangladesh also plans to increase purchases of American cotton and soybeans.
In July, Trump imposed a 35% tariff on imports of goods from Bangladesh, one of the leading suppliers of apparel to the United States. The Bangladeshi government is seeking to reduce this tariff to a level close to that of other countries in the region – 20% for Vietnam, 19% for Indonesia and the Philippines.
The Bangladeshi delegation is scheduled to hold talks with U.S. officials in Washington on July 29-31, a few days before the new tariffs come into effect on August 1.
- The United States has signed trade agreements with United Kingdom, China, Vietnam, Japan and European Union.
- on July 24, Trump announced that he would establish the basic rate of import duty at a level not lower than 15% from August 1.
