Britain imposes new sanctions against Russia: 20 vessels, six companies, four individuals

The United Kingdom on Tuesday, June 17, announced a new package of sanctions against Russia over its full-scale war against Ukraine, according to the country's government website.
The sanctions target four individuals, six companies, and 20 vessels, including oil tankers, shipping companies, and electronics suppliers to Russia.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to formally announce the details later at the G7 summit, Reuters writes.
According to him, the goal of the restrictive measures is to reduce Russia's energy revenues and the resources it can direct to waging war against Ukraine.
"We must seize this moment to increase economic pressure and show President Putin that it is in his interest – and in Russia's interest – to demonstrate that he is serious about peace," Starmer said in previously released statements.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the UK has already imposed sanctions on over 2,300 individuals, companies and vessels linked to Russia.
- In the 18th package of sanctions against Russia, the European Commission proposes to lower the price ceiling for Russian oil from the current $60 to $45 per barrel, as well as ban the use of Russian energy infrastructure, in particular Nord Stream.
- On June 12, it was reported that most G7 countries were ready to independently lower the price ceiling for Russian oil from $60 to $45 per barrel, even if the United States, led by President Donald Trump, did not support this decision.
