Court issues arrest warrant for billionaire Boholiubov over illegal border crossing
The Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv issued an arrest warrant in absentia for Ukrainian billionaire Hennadiy Boholiubov, charging him with illegal border crossing and the use of a false passport. Ukrainska Pravda published the court’s decision.
Boholiubov reportedly fled Ukraine in June 2024 using a false Ukrainian passport, according to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). The charges stem from criminal case No. 62022000000000619, initiated on August 17, 2022, concerning the unlawful facilitation of border crossings.
The businessman faces two charges:
Use of a false passport (Article 357, Part 3 of the Criminal Code): Punishable by a fine, probation for up to three years, or restricted liberty for the same period.
Illegal facilitation of border crossings (Article 332, Part 2): Punishable by imprisonment for five to seven years.
Investigators allege that on June 24, Boholiubov, accompanied by a relative, boarded a Kyiv-Chelm train to Poland, using an invalid passport belonging to another Ukrainian citizen. At the Polish border, Boholiubov presented his own passport.
Boholiubov denies any wrongdoing, asserting he did not break the law.
Boholiubov’s former business partner, Ihor Kolomoisky, has been detained in Kyiv since September 2023. Kolomoisky faces multiple charges, including alleged involvement in contract killings.
