Finnish fast food chain to start opening restaurants in western Ukraine

Hesburger, the largest fast-food chain in Finland, plans to open at least ten restaurants in western Ukraine over the next five years. The investment will amount to €12 million. This was announced by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
The development of cooperation was discussed at a meeting between Deputy Minister Oksana Osmyachko and the head of the official representative office of Finnish business in Ukraine, East Office of Finnish Industries, Janne Harjunpaa, and CEO of Hesburger Ukraine, Wanda Zamitska-Bergendal.
Hesburger is a Finnish family-owned fast-food chain founded in 1966. As of 2025, it has over 480 restaurants in nine countries.
In Ukraine, Hesburger has seven establishments in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
In March 2025, Hesburger invested €7.3 million, opening a production and storage complex near Kyiv for the production of cutlets and storage of products. The facility has a capacity of up to 6 tons of meat per day, and the expected volume is to serve up to 50 restaurants.
This initiative is the first Finnish industrial investment in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war.
- The Finnish company is best known for its Hesburger sauces, which are produced in factories in Finland and Lithuania, as well as for using 100% beef for its burgers.
- Before the start of the full-scale war, Hesburger had 38 restaurants in Russia and four in Belarus. In April 2022, the Finnish company decided to close all of its Russian restaurants.
