"Faster than anyone thinks". Brazilian President says Trump "guaranteed" him a trade deal

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that US President Donald Trump has "guaranteed" a trade deal between the countries to solve the problem of 50 percent US tariffs. He told reporters on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Malaysia, according to Reuters .
According to Lula da Silva, an agreement will be reached "faster than anyone thinks." He told reporters that his meeting with Trump was "surprisingly good" and that he had the impression that there would be no problems between the countries soon, Globo reported.
"If it's up to Trump and me, there will be a deal," the Brazilian president said.
Lula da Silva also said that he recognized the president's right to impose duties when he believes that a national industry is being harmed, but that the US decisions, he said, were based on erroneous information.
"It can't be like what happened with Brazil: based on false information, a decision to impose a 50% duty on Brazil. He [Trump] knows this, because I had the opportunity to say it, now there are no intermediaries. Now it's President Lula with President Trump," he said .
The Brazilian leader said he was satisfied and optimistic after the meeting and that, depending on the situation, he would call Trump next week.
Trump told reporters he had a "good" meeting with Lula da Silva, but did not mention "guarantees" of a deal.
"We had a very good meeting, and we'll see what happens. I don't know if anything will happen, but we'll see. They would like to make a deal. We'll see, now they are paying, I think, 50% of the tariffs. And I want to wish the president a happy birthday; today is his birthday [Lula da Silva turned 80 on October 27]. He's a very energetic guy, actually, and it was very impressive," the US president said .
- On August 6, , the United States imposed a 50% duty on Brazil for most goods. At the same time, it does not apply to such key sectors as aircraft construction, energy, and orange juice production.
