Metinvest acquires pipe plant in Romania

On December 16, Metinvest Group completed the acquisition of the ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Iași pipe plant in the Romanian city of Iași, the company announced on Wednesday.
The plant produces welded structural pipes for the construction, engineering, infrastructure, and agricultural sectors. It has five pipe mills, two longitudinal cutting lines, and two coating lines, with a maximum annual capacity of 240,000 tons.
Metinvest plans to operate the plant using hot-rolled coils produced at Zaporizhstal.
"For us, the new plant is an opportunity to integrate production between our facilities in Iași and Zaporizhzhia," said Yuriy Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest, commenting on the deal.
Alexander Mironenko, Chief Operating Officer of Metinvest, added:"The location of the asset in Romania, just 600 km from Zaporizhzhia, allows us to supply up to 180,000 tons of hot-rolled coils from Zaporizhstal annually. This will ensure regular orders and stable operations for the Romanian plant."
This is Metinvest’s first production facility in Romania. The group also owns assets in Italy, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Metinvest’s main shareholder is Rinat Akhmetov.
- Earlier in 2025, Metinvest signed a shareholder agreement with Danieli to construct a joint green steel plant in Italy. In September, Metinvest announced its intention to sell the US coal company United Coal, citing declining profitability, challenging market conditions, and depletion of reserves.
