White House trade adviser Peter Navarro accused India of financing Russia's war against Ukraine through the purchase of Russian oil, calling it "Modi's war." About writes Bloomberg.

Immediately after the administration Donald Trump has raised tariffs on imports from India to 50%, Navarro said that these steps are aimed at forcing New Delhi to cut energy ties with Moscow.

"I mean Modi's war because the road to peace partly goes through New Delhi." – Navarro said.

According to him, India, by buying Russian oil at a discount, harms American consumers and makes the United States lose money that should be used to support Ukraine.

"Everyone in America loses because of what India is doing. Consumers, businesses, workers lose because India's high tariffs cost us jobs, factories, revenue, and higher wages. And then taxpayers lose because we have to finance Modi's war."he added.

The new tariffs against India, which have risen to 50%, are among the highest in the region. They will affect more than 55% of Indian exports to the United States, the country's main market.

"I am concerned that the Indians are so arrogant about this issue"navarro said, adding: "They say: "Oh, we don't have higher tariffs. Oh, this is our sovereignty. We can buy oil from anyone."

"India, you are the largest democracy in the world, right? Act like it"navarro added.
