More than a third of Ukrainian refugees with temporary protection status work in Germany
More than a third of Ukrainian citizens who are in Germany with temporary protection status are employed. This was reported by the Federal Employment Agency of Germany, writes Ukrinform.
At the beginning of 2025, 299,670 Ukrainians were employed in the country, 174,000 of whom were women and 125,590 men. This represents just over 33% of all able-bodied refugees, which is lower than in neighboring EU countries.
At the same time, 497,210 Ukrainians of working age receive Bürgergeld social assistance, of whom 317,250 are women and 179,970 are men.
As of April 2025, a total of 693,420 Ukrainian citizens (including children and pensioners) received Bürgergeld assistance. Of the male recipients of this assistance, 150,660 were aged 18-63.
The average amount of payments in March was EUR 882 per month.
The amount of assistance depends on age and marital status:
- single adults and single parents – 563 euros;
- spouses – 506 euros each;
- children – from 357 to 471 euros.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Germany has hosted more than 1.1 million Ukrainian refugees, granting them the right to live, work, and access to social services.
- As of November 2024, in Germany 296,000 Ukrainians had jobs. This is almost every fourth of 1.15 million peoplewho were officially in the country during this period.
- In December, the then German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on unemployed Ukrainianswho have been staying in the country for a long time, to find a job as soon as possible.
