The American manufacturer of sweets and snacks Mars will receive approval from the European Union for acquisition of Kellanova (owner of the Pringles brand) for $36 billion. About reports Reuters, citing informed sources.

It is one of the largest mergers in the industry and will bring together such popular brands as M&Ms, Snickers, Whiskas, as well as Pringles, Pop-Tarts and Kellogg's under one brand. The deal has already been cleared in the US without any conditions.

According to the agency, the European Commission, which had previously expressed concern about a possible price increase and strengthening of Mars' bargaining position with retailers, now sees no sufficient legal grounds to demand concessions from the company.

The EU's official decision is expected by December 19.

According to NielsenIQ analysts, after the merger, the combined company will control about 12% of the US candy and snack market.
