The first metro station on Vynohradar will be opened in Kyiv in 2016, the mayor said Vitali Klitschko on Thursday.

"Next year, at least one station will be opened," the mayor said at the meeting Kyiv City Council.

Earlier, Klitschko predicted that two new metro stations in Kyiv will appear in 2027, as provided for in the contract with the contractor.

The construction of Mostytska and Prospekt Pravdy (now Varshavska) stations in Kyiv began in 2019. It was planned to open in December 2021.

"Metro to Vinogradar under construction. For the funds that are currently budgeted for this year, there are assurances [from the contractor] that the work will be completed," added Volodymyr Repik, director of the KCSA Finance Department.

Klitschko's statement was made during the consideration of a draft decision on attracting funds from international financial organizations for the construction of the first six stations of the new Podilsko-Vyhurivska subway line (metro to Troyeschyna).

"This decision is of a mandatory nature. It does not mention any specific financial instruments. I will name two figures: uAH 68 billion is the estimate of the part of the project for the Troieshchyna metro line and the budget for the next year is UAH 18 billion. That is, if nothing else is built, you can imagine how many years it will take to build the subway. The city cannot implement such a project on its own," Repik said.

According to him, negotiations on the loan are already underway, but it will be impossible to finalize them without a decision from the Kyiv City Council.

However, the decision was not adopted at this meeting and was sent back for revision by 64 votes.
