The US has come up with a way to save on deporting migrants: they are offering them $1,000 to leave

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a new program under which illegal immigrants can receive cash assistance in the amount of $1,000 if they agree to voluntarily leave the country, the DHS press service reported.
To receive assistance, the migrant must apply for departure through the official CBP Home App. Program participants are also offered assistance with purchasing tickets and arranging travel.
DHS also emphasized that program participants who are seriously preparing to depart will not be prioritized for detention or forced deportation.
According to American officials, voluntary return to their country of origin would allow migrants to avoid detention by ICE and save taxpayers money.
Currently, the average deportation of one person costs the United States over $17,000, and participation in the new program could reduce these costs by 70%.
The first successful examples of departure under the program have already been recorded in the US. One migrant received a ticket from Chicago to Honduras, and several more trips have already been booked for the coming weeks.
