The Ukrainian justice ministry on Wednesday filed a lawsuit with the supreme anti-corruption court to confiscate a plant in the eastern Sumy region owned by Russian senator Sergei Kalashnik.

Motordetal-Konotop LLC, which specialises in the production and supply of cylinder liners for internal combustion engines, was formally found by a company registered in Cyprus owned by a Georgian citizen.

The justice ministry says it will prove the plant actually belongs to Mr Kalashnik.

Sergei Kalashnik is a member of the federation council, the upper house of Russian parliament. He is sanctioned by most Western countries and Ukraine for aiding Russia’s full-scale aggression.

Motordetal-Konotop is capable of producing more than 1,500 types of cylinder liners for all types of automotive vehicles, ships, and diesel locomotives, and has its own iron foundry, two machining shops and auxiliary workshops.

The plant now employs more than 800 people and exports to 35 countries, its website says.
