Ukraine finally integrates gas turbine mini-thermal power plant donated by United States
Energy Minister German Halushchenko announced that Ukraine has finally integrated into the grid a gas turbine mobile power plant , which was a gift from the USA back in February 2023.
"It works," the minister said at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Utility Services on Monday.
The power plant, produced in the USA by the General Electric company, was brought to Ukraine in February 2023. Due to a delay in the arrival of the necessary components, its test launch took place at the Energoatom site only in October 2023.
The installed capacity of the mobile power plant is 28 MW.
Halushchenko said that "there were a number of aspects with this gas turbine installation."
"It is installed, it functions and generates electricity. And we additionally need such equipment in order to build distributed generation," the minister added.
At the end of December 2022, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that Ukraine had begun deploying a network of gas turbine and gas piston mini-power plants. The production of electricity on them is expensive, but they are good because they start working very quickly – up to three minutes.
At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is moving towards decentralization in the energy sector.
Gas generation in Ukraine is gaining popularity, but the pace of its installation is extremely insufficient. Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, stated at the beginning of June that no new gas turbine installation has been launched in Ukraine yet.
