Reuters: Trump calls on EU to impose 100% tariffs on China, India for supporting Russia

President of the United States Donald Trump on Tuesday, September 9, called on the European Union to impose tariffs of up to 100% against China and India to increase pressure on Russia and the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. About writes Reuters, citing U.S. and European officials.
According to the agency's sources, Trump argued that China and India remain the largest buyers of Russian oil, which gives Moscow money to continue its war against Ukraine.
Trump voiced the proposal during a phone call with European Special Envoy for Sanctions David O'Sullivan and other EU representatives who are in Washington to coordinate sanctions policy.
According to a European diplomat, the United States has made it clear that it is ready to impose similar duties if the European Union joins in.
This would mean a change in the current strategy of Brussels, which has so far relied on sanctions against Russia rather than trade restrictions on third countries.
China has already responded, saying that it is categorically against US economic pressure and does not agree to be dragged into discussions about Russia.
- In the evening of the same day, Trump called Modi a "good friend" and expressed confidence in reaching an agreement with India.
