President of the United States Donald Trump announced new import duties on pharmaceuticals, trucks and furniture. About this writes Bloomberg.
Trump said that starting from October 1, 2025, all patented medicines produced abroad will be subject to a 100% duty. Companies building plants in the US will avoid this tariff.
In addition, the new duties provide for:
- 25% duty on imported trucks;

- 30% – for upholstered furniture.
According to Bloomberg Economics, the tariff on pharmaceuticals could raise the average tariff rate in the US by 3.3 percentage points. Switzerland and Singapore, which are major suppliers of medicines to the United States, will be most affected by this tariff.
Drugs manufactured in Ireland, Denmark, and Japan may also be at risk.
Large international companies, including Johnson & Johnson, Merck, AstraZeneca, and Novo Nordisk, have already announced billions of dollars in investments in US production to avoid additional duties. However, not all of them have managed to start construction yet.
