Germany wants to remove the AI app DeepSeek from the App Store and Google Play

German data protection commissioner Maike Kamp has officially requested that Apple and Google remove the Chinese app DeepSeek from the app stores of German users. This was reported by Reuters.
Kamp cited the reason for the appeal as a violation of personal data protection norms, in particular the illegal transfer of chatbot user data to China.
According to Kamp, DeepSeek failed to provide convincing evidence that user data from Germany is protected in accordance with the requirements of the European Union.
In its privacy policy, DeepSeek openly states that it stores data, including query texts and uploaded files, on servers in China.
"The Chinese authorities have broad powers to access personal data held by Chinese companies," the German official stressed.
Back in May, the German regulator asked DeepSeek to either comply with European data processing requirements or voluntarily remove the application from the platform. The company did not fulfill either requirement.
- On June 23, it was reported that the artificial intelligence company DeepSeek is supporting China's military and intelligence operations, attempting to circumvent American restrictions on the supply of semiconductors.
