Zakarpattia city plans housing project to double its population

A new residential complex designed to accommodate between 5,000 and 7,000 people is set to be built in the city of Perechyn, located in Ukraine’s Zakarpattia region. The announcement was made on Facebook by Mayor Ivan Pohorilyak.
"It’s like building another Perechyn within Perechyn," he said.
As of early 2022, the city had a population of approximately 6,000 residents.
The project is a joint initiative between Friendly Windtechnology LLC—a wind turbine manufacturer that relocated from Kramatorsk in 2022—and the real estate developer Grados Construction.
The new neighborhood will feature mid-rise apartment buildings ranging from four to six stories. Construction is expected to take two to three years.

Mayor Pohorilyak expressed hope that the availability of modern housing and employment opportunities will encourage former residents who left Perechyn to return.
- In the context of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Zakarpattia is emerging as a potential new hub for industrial development in Ukraine.
