The EBRD is going to invest 100 million euros in new Hansen Towns in Ukraine

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering opening a credit line of up to EUR 100 million to finance an affordable housing project in Ukraine, according to the bank's website .

If approved, the project will be implemented by American entrepreneur Dell Loy Hansen through the Ladder to Prosperity program.

In the first phase, the EBRD will provide €7.1 million to build two residential complexes in Kyiv region, which will provide 182 affordable apartments.

Housing is intended for internally displaced persons, war veterans and the elderly.

The project envisages two models: affordable rental and lease with a purchase option.

According to the plan, by 2029, about 1800 apartments will be built under the program in different regions of Ukraine.

The total cost of the project is estimated at 167 million euros.

In addition to construction, the project includes an educational component: an apprenticeship and internship program in the construction sector for at least 300 IDPs. A support plan for residents is also being developed, including rehabilitation measures for war-affected people .

The project is implemented through the non-profit organization Hansen Mission Ukraine, founded by Hansen, and the project companies Hansen Affordable Housing and Hansen Parkway House .

The Hansen Initiative's website states that it offers affordable rent (at 30% below market price – from UAH 11,000 for a one-bedroom apartment to UAH 15,800 for a three-bedroom apartment) in Sofiyivska Borshchahivka.

The lease with purchase option is offered in four properties: "Hansen Township 2 in Tarasivka, Forest Lake in Kolonshyn, a planned future community in Pukhivka and another township in Hlevas.
