Melon prices have risen significantly in Ukraine this week. About this reports EastFruit project.

Analysts say the main reasons for the price increase are a seasonal decline in supply and strong demand among consumers.

According to farmers, the price of melons on farms has increased by an average of 40% compared to last week.

The situation is explained by the fact that the harvest of early melon varieties is almost finished in the southern regions, and the harvest of late varieties will begin only at the end of August.

In addition, due to unfavorable weather conditions, producers had problems with fruit quality.

Currently, wholesale batches of melon from the field are sold for 26-40 UAH per kilogram ($0.63-0.97).

At the same time, this year melons are offered on average 2.9 times more expensive than on the same date last year. Experts attribute this to a reduction in melons production due to unfavorable weather conditions.
