Cherries prices in Ukraine have dropped sharply – in two days the average cost of berries fell from UAH 200 to UAH 150 per kilogram. This is reported by the EastFruit industry project, citing data from the monitoring service of the country's largest wholesale market, Shuvar.

Despite the decline, the current price for cherries is the highest in the last ten years.

On May 27, 2024, cherries cost 135 UAH per kilogram, in 2020 – 60 UAH per kilogram, in 2019 – 35 UAH per kilogram, and in 2016 – only 25 UAH per kilogram.

Analysts attribute the high prices to spring frosts during the flowering of stone crops and unusually cold weather in May 2025. Because of this, the crop ripens with a delay of about three weeks.

According to the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, the second decade of May turned out to be one of the coldest in the last 30 years – the average temperature was 4–6 °C below normal.

A week ago, Ukrainian markets only had imported cherries, which were sold at "space" prices – from 1,200 to 1,500 UAH per kilogram.
