Rinat Akhmetov's DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy company, has commissioned a decentralized energy storage system (batteries) with a total capacity of 200 MW. The company announced this on Thursday on its website.

The company connected six new facilities with different capacities, ranging from 20 to 50 MW, to the grid in Kyiv and Dnipro regions.

The system consists of 698 Fluence Gridstack modules with batteries. The total capacity of the system is 400 MWh of electricity, which is enough to power 600,000 homes for two hours.

The construction of the facilities lasted six months, from March to August 2025, with total investments of €125 million by Akhmetov's company.

DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko called the project "a historic step for the Ukrainian energy system that will determine its development for years to come".

  • The company has reported that it is considering installing an additional 300 MW of battery storage.
