The Cabinet of Ministers plans to replace the acting CEO of Energoatom following a corruption scandal at the company, Economy Minister Oleksiy Sobolev said at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada’s temporary investigative commission on economic security.

A new supervisory board is expected to be appointed within seven days, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced on Monday.

"The key task for this week is to approve Energoatom’s new supervisory board," she wrote on Telegram after the government meeting.

Minister Sobolev confirmed that such a rapid appointment is possible.

According to him, the process is moving quickly because the selection procedure is already underway following a decision to expand the board’s membership. Initially, two independent members were to be chosen, but now four will be selected.

"There is an independent recruiter, clear requirements, and a shortlist, so we will be able to form the supervisory board now. We are also discussing a short-term acting director with the G7. Most likely, the new supervisory board will quickly appoint one to stop everything that should not be happening in the company," he said.

  • Energoatom has been operating without a permanent head since its corporatization at the end of 2023. It is currently led on an interim basis by Pavlo Kovtoniuk, formerly the CEO of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant.
