Metinvest plans to build two new solar power plants at its enterprises by the end of 2026

Rinat Akhmetov's Metinvest mining and metallurgical group plans to build two solar power plants at its enterprises with a total capacity of over 27 MW by the end of 2026. Delo.ua reports this.
In particular, during 2025-2026 they plan to establish:
- a 23.8 MW solar power plant at the Central Mining and Processing Plant (CGPC);
- a 13.3 MW solar power plant at the Kametstal steel plant.
In total, over the next two years, the holding plans to invest $18.1 million in the construction of solar power plants.
In addition, since 2024, Metinvest has also been implementing projects to install gas piston generators at three of its enterprises – the Northern and Central Mining and Processing Complexes and Kametstal.
The launch of this generation is scheduled for April-May, and the total capacity will be 29 MW.
Metinvest explains the development of its own gas generation as a desire to reduce the risks of enterprise shutdowns during blackouts in the Ukrainian power system and reduce electricity shortages during peak hours.
- On May 12, Metinvest presented a quarterly report: steel was held back, coal fell by 50% due to the war.
- On May 14, Metinvest explained the reasons for the downtime of Ukraine's largest iron ore concentrate producer.
